The SF Symphony’s Music for Families is more than a concert series. We’ve worked to craft an experience for you and your family, designed to introduce children and their parents to live orchestral music in fun and engaging ways. Part performance and part family outing, the series consists of interactive matinee children’s concerts paired with pre-concert activities in the Davies Symphony Hall lobbies.

When you and your family purchase tickets to a MFF concert, you’ll receive a link to download a variety of fun activities that can be done at home together to prepare for the concert. Families can gather together to become familiar with the music and concepts behind the upcoming performance through coloring activities, puzzles, and other fun educational materials.

The performance starts at 2 p.m., but make sure to arrive early to take in the excitement of our pre-concert lobby activities! With an instrument petting zoo where children are able to touch and play with the orchestral instruments, coloring stations, photo stations, musical piano mats, and more, there’s something for kids with a variety of interests.

When the concert begins, the interactive fun continues. Our musicians and conductor perform fast paced and engaging programs, explaining the music they’re performing and what it means as they go. With a variety of topics covered throughout the season, each MFF performance focuses on a key concept to captivate your family and teach them new musical concepts.
