The Silicon Valley League of the San Francisco Symphony was founded in 2001 by Peninsula residents who support and enjoy the San Francisco Symphony. It is one of nine volunteer groups in the Bay area and coordinated by the Symphony’s Volunteer Council, established in 1973. The League’s mission is to encourage community service, support the Symphony in audience development, and raise funds for the Symphony’s community and education programs.
The League’s primary community focus is music education through the Symphony’s Concerts for Kids Program which introduces school children to the wonders of symphonic music. Interested league members train as docents and prepare students from local schools to attend these special concerts at Davies Symphony Hall. Each season, the League provides volunteer docents, tickets and transportation for students from the Castro and Theuerkauf schools in Mountain View to the Symphony’s Concerts for Kids programs at Davies Symphony Hall.
Throughout the year, League members enjoy a variety of local social and musical events, music-oriented lectures and trips, and San Francisco Symphony concerts at Davies Symphony Hall. Six general meetings are held each season, include wine and hors d’oeuvres followed by business meeting and either musical performance or educational speaker. Members’ spouses or partners are welcome to attend the 60-80 person meetings.
