ELLEN MAGNIN NEWMAN AWARD
All SF concert page
When Louise M. Davies Symphony Hall opened in 1980, the San Francisco Symphony and Wells Fargo inaugurated what has become a tradition: the All San Francisco Concert. This performance for the community, sponsored by Wells Fargo, is one of the highlights of the Symphony’s opening week activities, and pays tribute to the many neighborhood and social service organizations throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. The All San Francisco Concert Committee of the Volunteer Council coordinates this event.
In 2007, Wells Fargo sought to honor the founder of the All San Francisco Committee and San Francisco Symphony Board member Ellen Magnin Newman through the creation and sponsorship of the Ellen Magnin Newman Award. This award is now presented annually at the All San Francisco Community Reception to a Bay Area community-based organization that strengthens the City’s cultural fabric and serves vulnerable families and individuals to create a more just and equitable society for everyone who lives in San Francisco. Wells Fargo and the All San Francisco Committee recognize and honor 2018-2019 Awardee The Imagine Bus Project.
The Imagine Bus Project’s core activity is to inspire to change the lives of teens in the juvenile justice system by using the visual arts to build life skills and inspire behavioral change. Their methodology is based on the transformative power of creative thinking, the rehabilitative effects of art making, essential life skill building, and the profound influence of diverse role models from the community. Through their programs, The Imagine Bus Project enables self-expression and positive personal discovery so that young people can build empathy for others, and successfully reenter their communities with a path to a fulfilling future.
