Pianist Jean-Efflam Bavouzet launched his 2015-16 season with an appearance at the BBC Proms performing Ravel’s Piano Concerto in G major with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra. Other European highlights this season include debuts at Opernhaus Zürich, Swedish Chamber Orchestra, Orquestra Simfònica de Barcelona, and the Gothenburg Symphony, where he performs both of Ravel’s piano concertos in one program. He also makes appearances with the BBC Symphony, Orchestre National de Belgique, Manchester Camerata, Haydn Orchestra of Bolzano, and Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana in Lugano. In North America, Mr. Bavouzet returns to the Cleveland Orchestra and Seattle Symphony.
Last season, he toured to venues such as Carnegie Hall and Davies Symphony Hall with the London Philharmonic. Further afield, he was artist-in-residence with the São Paulo Symphony Orchestra and also worked with the NHK Symphony Orchestra, Sydney, Melbourne, and Adelaide symphonies, and the Hong Kong Philharmonic. In recital, Mr. Bavouzet regularly performs at venues such as the Louvre in Paris and London’s Wigmore Hall. He recently collaborated with composer Jörg Widmann in a chamber music project at the Prince Regent Theater in Munich. This season he returns to London’s International Piano Series and gives recitals in Santa Barbara, Denver, Calgary, and Singapore.
Mr. Bavouzet records exclusively for the Chandos label. His recent release featuring the complete Prokofiev piano concertos with the BBC Philharmonic and Gianandrea Noseda won the 2014 Gramophone award in the concerto category. Other recordings include Haydn’s piano concertos with Manchester Camerata, Bartók’s piano concertos with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, and Stravinsky’s complete works for piano and orchestra with the São Paulo Symphony Orchestra under Yan Pascal Tortelier. His earlier recordings resulted in two Gramophone awards, two BBC Music Magazine awards, a Diapason d’Or, and Choc de l’année. Ongoing recording projects include Beethoven and Haydn piano sonata cycles.
Jean-Efflam Bavouzet has worked closely with Pierre Boulez, Maurice Ohana, and Bruno Mantovani, and is also a champion of lesser-known French music, notably that of Gabriel Pierné and Albéric Magnard. He regularly collaborates with the Palazzetto Bru Zane and is also Artistic Director of the International Lofoten Piano Festival. He made his San Francisco Symphony debut in 2012.
