15-16 SeasonMusic, family and tradition: three things at the heart of the San Francisco Symphony’s Chinese New Year celebration. Join us on Saturday, February 13, 2016 to celebrate the Lunar New Year and the Year of the Monkey. This family event includes a pre-concert Festival Reception which transforms the lobbies of Davies Symphony Hall with lion dancing, Chinese calligraphy, ribbon dancing, tea bars, children’s entertainment and “lucky” red envelopes.

Want to upgrade your experience? Purchase a ticket to the dramatic and exciting Imperial Dinner and continue the festivities after the concert. Dine with over 500 of the most influential business and philanthropic leaders throughout the Asian-American community.

Dinner tickets include access to the Festival Reception, premium seating at the Chinese New Year Concert, and the Imperial Dinner. These tickets will be mailed 2 weeks before the event. All ticket holders are invited to arrive at 2pm for a family-friendly reception.

Change in soloist

Due to a wrist injury, the previously announced pipa soloist Wu Man will not be performing Zhao Jiping’s Pipa Concerto No. 2. She sends her best Chinese New Year wishes to everyone in San Francisco, and looks forward to performing at a future engagement with the San Francisco Symphony.

We are delighted to perform Tan Dun’s Water Concerto for Water Percussion and Orchestra with percussionist Haruka Fuji in its place.
