Saint Petersburg Philharmonic plays Rachmaninoff and Prokofiev

THE SAN FRANCISCO SYMPHONY PRESENTS GREAT PERFORMERS

The Saint Petersburg Philharmonic’s second night features Vilde Frang, “a new star in the violin firmament,” (The Guardian) in Prokofiev’s electrifying Second Violin Concerto. Framing this thrilling show of virtuosity, music director Yuri Temirkanov conducts the Philharmonic in Rossini’s ever-popular Overture to The Barber of Seville and Rachmaninoff’s Second Symphony, a sweeping work of Romantic pathos and Russian grandeur.
