Pablo Heras-Casado

Pablo Heras-Casado has served as Principal Conductor of the Orchestra of Saint Luke’s in New York since 2012. In 2014 he was appointed Principal Guest Conductor of Teatro Real in Madrid. He was named Musical America’s Conductor of the Year for 2014.

Mr. Heras-Casado is a regular guest with the Chicago Symphony, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Staatskapelle Berlin, Munich Philharmonic, Bavarian Radio Orchestra, Mariinsky Orchestra, and the Metropolitan Opera. He made his San Francisco Symphony debut in 2010 and became a Shenson Young Artist in 2013. In 2015-16, he returns to the Philharmonia Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra dell'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, and the Rotterdam Philharmonic. He makes his debuts with the Vienna Philharmonic, Philadelphia Orchestra, Israel Philharmonic, and the Vienna Symphony; continues his collaborations with Ensemble Intercontemporain, Freiburg Baroque Orchestra, and the Balthasar Neumann Choir and Ensemble; and appears at the Mozarteum Salzburg, where he is invited annually for Mozartwoche. The season’s opera projects include Verdi’s Rigoletto at the Metropolitan Opera and I due Foscari at Teatro Real.

In previous seasons he has conducted the Berlin Philharmonic, Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Zurich Tonhalle Orchestra, New York Philharmonic, Boston Symphony, Cleveland Orchestra, and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra. He has also appeared at the Baden-Baden, Salzburg, and Aix-en-Provence festivals, and regularly returns to the Lucerne Festival.

Mr. Heras-Casado records for Harmonia Mundi and Deutsche Grammophon’s Archiv Produktion. He has received numerous prizes for his recordings, including three ECHO Klassik awards, the German Record Critics’ Award, two Diapason d'Or awards, and a Latin Grammy. Recent releases on Harmonia Mundi include Schumann concertos with violinist Isabelle Faust and pianist Alexander Melnikov, Schubert’s Symphonies Nos. 3 and 4 with Freiburg Baroque Orchestra, and Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 2 with the Bavarian Radio Orchestra. For Archiv, he has recorded a disc of works by members of the Praetorius family, and an album celebrating the legendary castrato singer Farinelli. He also appears on a Sony release of Verdi’s baritone arias with Plácido Domingo and a Deutsche Grammophon DVD of Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore from Festspielhaus Baden-Baden.

Pablo Heras-Casado holds the Medalla de Honor of the Rodriguez Acosta Foundation. In February 2012 he was awarded the Golden Medal of Merit by the Council of Granada, his hometown, of which he is also an Honorary Ambassador. In June 2014 he joined Spanish charity Ayuda en Acción, supporting the eradication of poverty and injustice in the world.
