Re/current: Bates and Beethoven’s Mass in C

The Beethoven and Bates Festival continues with selections from the Viennese master’s rarely heard incidental music to King Stephen, featuring the San Francisco Symphony Chorus. An incredible lineup of soloists joins the Chorus for the glorious Mass in C, the oft-overlooked elder sibling of Beethoven’s later colossus, the Missa solemnis. Mason Bates complements these with his tone poem Liquid Interface, an inventive four-movement evocation of water scored for large orchestra and electronica.
