Michael Paller

Michael Paller (dramaturg) is American Conservatory Theater’s resident dramaturg and director of humanities. He began his career as literary manager at Center Repertory Theatre (Cleveland), then worked as a play reader and script consultant for Manhattan Theatre Club, and has since been a dramaturg for George Street Playhouse, the Berkshire Theatre Festival, Barrington Stage Company, Long Wharf Theatre, Roundabout Theatre Company, and others. He dramaturged the Russian premiere of Tennessee Williams’s Small Craft Warnings at the Sovremennik Theater in Moscow. Since coming to A.C.T. he has dramaturged more than forty mainstage productions and developmental readings, and he teaches in A.C.T.’s MFA acting program. He is the author of Gentlemen Callers: Tennessee Williams, Homosexuality, and Mid-Twentieth-Century Drama and Tennessee Williams in an Hour: The Playwright in Context. Before arriving at A.C.T. in 2005, he taught at Columbia University and the State University of New York at Purchase.
