Joélle Harvey

Soprano Joélle Harvey, a native of Bolivar, New York, first appeared with the San Francisco Symphony in 2009, singing the role of Leila in the semi-staged production of Iolanthe; she last appeared with the Orchestra in December 2011. Ms. Harvey recently made her debut with the Glyndebourne Festival Opera in Jonathan Kent’s production of Purcell’s The Fairy Queen and performed Bach’s B minor Mass with the English Concert at the BBC Proms and in Leipzig. This season, she performs the role of Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro with the Glyndebourne Festival and with Arizona Opera, appears as Tigrane in Radamisto with the English Concert at Carnegie Hall and in Ann Arbor, makes her debut with the New York Philharmonic in the Mendelssohn and Bach Magnificats, and appears as Iphis in a US tour of Handel’s Jephtha with the Handel and Haydn Society. She concludes the season with a return to Festival d’Aix-en-Provence as Zerlina in Don Giovanni. Ms. Harvey received her bachelor’s and master's degrees in vocal performance from the University of Cincinnati College–Conservatory of Music, where she performed the roles of Amor in Cavalli’s L’Egisto and Poppea in L’incoronazione di Poppea; she continues to study with Karen Lykes. She has received the 2007 Richard F. Gold Career Grant, the 2009 Sara Tucker Study Grant, and a 2010 Encouragement Award from the George London Foundation. Ms. Harvey won first prize in last year’s Gerda Lissner Foundation Vocal Competition.
