Susanna Mälkki leads 2 weeks of concerts with the San Francisco Symphony, October 15-24

SAN FRANCISCO, September 16, 2015 – Susanna Mälkki returns to San Francisco to conduct two weeks of concerts with the San Francisco Symphony (SFS) in Davies Symphony Hall, October 15-18 and 22-24. The first week is a program of Russian music featuring violinist Christian Tetzlaff as soloist in the Shostakovich Violin Concerto No. 1. The Orchestra is highlighted in Prokofiev’s Symphony No. 5 and in Mussorgsky’s Dawn on the Moscow River arr. by Shostakovich. The second week of concerts showcases two works from the conductor’s homeland of Finland: the first SFS performance of Alma III: Soma by living composer Jukka Tiensuu, and Sibelius’s Symphony No. 5.
