Dianne M. Terp

Name:  Dianne M. Terp
Voice type: Alto
SFS Chorus member since: 1998
Hometown: Morris Plains, NJ
Music schools I attended: Smith College; New England and Boston conservatories

Began singing: At age 4

Musical inspirations: My first formal teacher, Eloise Finardi

If I were not a professional singer, I might be a: Volunteer singer (I would have to sing somehow)

Favorite composers: Berlioz, R. Strauss, Brahms, J.S. Bach

Favorite vocal works: Verdi, Requiem; Bach, Mass in B minor; Brahms, Alto Rhapsody; Handel, Messiah

When I’m not working, I enjoy: Clinical social work

Recent reading: Boomerang: Travels in the New Third World, by Michael Lewis

On my CD player/iPod: Blues singer Candye Kane; Dusty Springfield; lots of Motown and ’60s girl groups

Favorite things to do in the Bay Area: Finding new restaurants, supporting our fabulous LGBT community and always celebrating the diversity of people in San Francisco

Plus: I really enjoy singing in a new language. The most recent new language was Estonian, before that, Elvish from Lord of the Rings. And when we have a new language it means a new piece of music, which is equally exciting.
